BMW Car Club of America E31 Chapter – The Voice of E31 Owners
October 2023 President’s Update- by Henry Christoff
Hello, E31 enthusiasts!
Over the past weeks, I have received inquiries about the CHF 7.1 power steering fluid used in our 8s. As most of you know, this appears to be no longer available from Pentosin. However, the CHF 7.1 formulation is available from these two suppliers: FEBI #06162 and Beck/Arnley #252-0027. I ran these supplier part numbers on the internet and found many companies offering these two brands of 7.1 fluid.
As mentioned in the last update, some E31 parts formerly no longer available or permanently on backorder are now available again. Sunroof repair parts for the E31 are back in stock at BMW. I replaced the cable trolley/toothed racks and the lift gate arms on my car in June 2012. At the time, I used Frankie’s sunroof tutorial to help with the disassembly and reassembly. Today, Frankie’s sunroof tutorial has been updated and thanks to the folks at “BMW Repair Guide” there is a YouTube video and they have written instructions for guidance as well.

COMING EVENTS – Not To Be Missed!
The SoCal Vintage BMW Meet Woodley Avenue Park, Van Nuys, CA Saturday, November 4th.
Registration & EVENT details: http://socalvintagebmw.com/
This event is sponsored by the E31 Chapter!
-SoCal Vintage-
If you have never been to this west coast gem, think about joining us there on the first weekend in November. As the SoCal Vintage website says- it is the “Central Meeting Point for the Vintage BMW Community”. Rumor has it that the national office of the BMW CCA is planning to show something you will not want to miss. As a bonus, the Sunday after the Saturday BMW event is the French and Italian show at the same location. I personally attended both events in 2019 and thoroughly enjoyed myself. Even Jay Leno showed up on Saturday with one of his behemoth creations. To register you and your car for this event, follow the link below. Or just come as a spectator – admission is free! http://socalvintagebmw.com/
Happy Halloween, everyone! —Henry Christoff– pres@bmwccaE31.com
